The pious churchmen of the Roman Catholic Church made an attempt to reorganise the Catholic Church and put an end to its wrongdoings and corruption to prevent further revolts against the church and other wars and disasters. An attempt was made by these churchman from within to restore and uphold the Catholic Church's reputation. This is known as counter-reformation. The council of Trent organised by Pope Paul III in the year 1545 was The first step and attempt made by about 40 church bishops to regain the church's prestigious reputation.

Any two reforms that were taken were:-

(1) The sale of indulgences was banned( letters which gave the church the power and authority to forgive sins of people who paid irrespective of whether they seriously regretted their actions. The sale of these letters led to corruption, wealthy lifestyle of the Popes and clergy which formed the basis for the protestant revolt/ reformation)

(2) Seminaries would be set up to educate priests

(3) All religious talk would be in the native language of people and not Latin, (which only a few educated people could understand at the time)

(4) The clergy would conduct religious ceremonies free of cost.

The Industrial Revolution was a time when the manufacturing of goods moved from small shops and homes to large factories. This shift brought about changes in culture as people moved from rural areas to big cities in order to work.

It ushered the ' machinery age ' . It was a period in which rapid development, advancement and industrialisation took place( comprising of the invention of new machines such as the spinning Jenny, watt-steam engine etc.)
