My next pet was a pigeon. We called him Ari. As he had no parents to teach him, Ari became convinced
that he was not a bird at all and refused to fly. If he wanted to get on a chair, he stood below it, cooing
until someone picked him up. He would even try to come on walks with us. This, however, we had to stop
for either you carried him on your shoulder or else you let him walked behind. If you let him walk, then you
had to slow down your own pace to suit his, for should you get too far ahead. You would find him running
after you, cooing frantically. Ari refused to inhabit the pigeon loft. He preferred to sleep on end of Jane's
bed.
If Jane turned over in bed at night, he would hobble up and perch on her face, cooing lovingly. Ari loved
music too. Hearing a tune, he would move around the gramaphone.
