The no-confidence motion is a vote which decides whether the executive shall be fit for the position.

  • No-confidence motion can be initiated toward the entire body or an individual by the opposition party. It can be moved by any member but only in Lok Sabha and Rajya sabha. The opposition has " no confidence" in the government in power.
  • The government in power has to prove that it has the requisitioned number of members. This helps in checking whether they are trustworthy or not. If the party is not able to prove the number, then it is assumed that they do not have any confidence. This is when the government might fall and new elections are announced.
  • Thus, the executives need to make sure that they are not misleading anyone because if a no-confidence motion is passed then they might not be able to prove themselves.
