3 pens and 1 pencil together cost Rs. 100 . find the cost of 5 pens and 2 pencils

let the cost of 3 pens be ' 3x ' and cost of 1 pencil be y .

according to question ,

3x + y = 100

this equation satisfies at x = 20 and

y = 40

so now ,cost of 5 pens and 2 pencils will be

5x + 2y = 5 × 20 + 2 × 40

= 100 + 80 = Rs 180

therefore,

cost of 5 pens and 2 pencils = Rs 180
