Reasons for forest depletion in India are:-
1) Greatest damage was during the colonial period due to expansion of railways, agriculture etc.
2) Mining, grazing and developmental projects caused forest depletion.
3) 40,000 forest were cleared due to the 'NARMADA VALLEY PROJECT'.
