2.4

\huge{\underline{\tt{\blue{Explanation-}}}}

Absolute refractive index of glass = 1.5

Refractive index of  diamond with respect to glass = \dfrac{\mu \ diamond }{ \mu \ glass} = 1.6

μ diamond = μglass x 1.6 = 1.5 x 1.6 = 2.4

absolute refractive index of diamond = μ diamond / μ air  =2.4

Given :

➳ RI of diamond wrt glass = 1.6

➳ RI of glass = 1.5

To Find :

➳ RI of diamond.

Solution :

⇒ Refractive infex of medium is defined as the ratio of speed of light in vacuum to the speed of light in medium.

\bigstar\:\underline{\boxed{\bf{n=\dfrac{c}{v}=\dfrac{speed\:of\:light\:in\:vacuum}{speed\:of\:light\:in\:medium}}}}

⇒ It is an unitless as well as dimensionless quantity.

⇒ Refractive index of medium A wrt medium B is given by

\bigstar\:\underline{\boxed{\bf{n_{AB}=\dfrac{n_A}{n_B}}}}

⇒ Refractive index of diamond wrt glass is given by

\implies\sf\:n_{dg}=\dfrac{n_d}{n_g}\\ \\ \implies\sf\:1.6=\dfrac{n_d}{1.5}\\ \\ \implies\sf\:n_d=1.6\times 1.5\\ \\ \implies\boxed{\bf{n_d=2.4}}
