3 solutions have acid content 40%, 60% and 80% respectively. When x, (x+1) and (x+2) ml
respectively are taken from the three and mixed, the resultant is 65% acid. What can be
said about x?

Answer:

x=5/3

Step-by-step explanation:

3 solutions have acid content 40%, 60% and 80% respectively

Now x, (x+1) and (x+2) ml

respectively are taken from the three

The acid content of three parts

1.  40% of x ml=40x/100 ml

2. 60% of (x+1) ml =60(x+1)/100 ml

3. 80% of (x+1) ml =80(x+2)/100 ml

Total acid content

=1/100{40x+60(x+1)+80(x+2) }

=1/100*( 40x+60x+60+80x+160)

=1/100*( 180x+220)=20/100( 9x+11) ml

Now

Acid % = 100*Amount of acid/ ( total amount of solution)

=100*(20/100) (9x+11) /( x+x+1+x+2)=65 ( given)

20(9x+11)=65(3x+3)

4(9x+11)=13(3x+3)

36x+44=39x+39

39x-36x=44-39

3x=5

x=5/3
