3 Solve the following.

(a) Find the sum and the difference between the largest 4digit number and the smallest 5digit number.

(b) The school committee of Vidya Niketan spent 83,985 on books
and 90,745 on uniforms. How much did they spend in all? If they had 3,00,000, how much money remained with the school committee?​

Answer:

a) Largest four digit number = 9999  

Smallest five digit number = 10000  

Sum-

9999+10000 = 19999  

Difference-

10000-9999 = 1

b)  

Total money spent by the school committee  

= money spent for books + money spent for  

uniforms  

= 83,985 + 90,745  

= 174,730  

Total money with the committee = 3,00,000

Money remained = 3,00,000 - 174,730 = 125,270
