Step-by-step explanation:

3x-5y=16...(i)

x-3y = 8....(ii)

Multiplying (ii ) by 3 ,we get,

3x-9y=24

Now,

3x-5y=16 - 3x - 9y=24

y= -2

substituting y in ( ii)

x - 3 × ( - 2)= 8

x + 6 = 8

x = 8 -6

x = 2
