3) Study the given experimental set-up and answer the  questions.



                                                                                                              

(i) The above experimental set up shows reaction between metal and

     (a) Acid     (b) Metal carbonate    (iii) Metal hydrogen carbonate  (iv) Metal oxide

(ii) Which gas is liberated during the process ?

     (a) Hydrogen gas   (b) Carbon dioxide gas  

     (c) Nitrogen gas     (d) Hydrogen sulphide gas

 

(iii) Identify the balanced chemical equation for the given reaction –

     (a) Zn  +  H2SO4  →  ZnSO4  +  H2

     (b) 2Zn  +  2H2SO4  →  2ZnSO4  +  2H2

     (c)  Zn  +  2H2SO4  →  2ZnSO4  +  H2

     (d)  2Zn  +  H2SO4  →  2ZnSO4  +  H2

 

(iv)  What will happen if NaOH is used in place of dil. sulphuric acid and the test

tube is heated ?

 

      (a) It will produce sodium zincate (salt) and hydrogen gas

      (b) It will produce sodium sulphate and hydrogen gas

      (c) It will produce sodium zincate (salt) and carbon dioxide gas

(v)  How will you test for the gas evolved ?

      (a) Bring a glowing splint near test tube, it will re-ignite

           a popping sound occurs.
