Solution :

The given expression is

3 (x - y) + 4x - y

= 3x - 3y + 4x - y

= (3x + 4x) - (3y + y)

= 7x - 4y

When x = 2 and y = - 2, we get

7 (2) - 4 (- 2)

= 14 + 8

= 22 ,

which is the requiring value of the express under given conditions.
