3. The area of base of a cylindrical vessel is 300 cm
Water (density = 1000 kg m-3) is poured into it up
to a depth of 6 cm. Calculate : (a) the pressure and
(b) the thrust of water on the base. (8 = 10 m s-).

Given:

  • Area of base of a cylindrical vessel is 300cm
  • Density: 1000 kg m^3
  • Depth : 6cm
  • g = 10m/s

To Find:

a) the pressure

b) thrust of water on the base

Solution:

a) Here we using the formula of Pressure.

Formula of Pressure: hdg

\sf\ 0.06 m × 10^3/m^3 × 10m/s^2

\dashrightarrow\: \underline{\boxed{\bf{\purple{600 pa}}}}

•°• Pressure exerted by cylindrical vessel is 600 pa.

b) Here we using the formula of Thrust.

Formula of Thrust : Pressure × Area

\sf\ 600 pa × 300 × 10^-4m^2

\dashrightarrow\: \underline{\boxed{\bf{\purple{18 N}}}}

•°• The thrust on base is 18 N.

\large\underline\bold{Additional\: Information}

  • Pressure is an expression of force exerted on a surface per unit area.
  • The standard unit of pressure is the pascal (Pa).
  • The total force exerted by the body perpendicular to the surface is known as thrust. S.I unit is (N).

⠀⠀⠀⠀Thrust = Pressure × Area
