3. The bar graph shows changes in price of regular gasoline each year from 1996-
2010. For example, at the end of 1996, the price per gallon for regular gasoline
was $0.15 more than the price per gallon at the end of 1995. The price at the end
of 1997 was $0.12 less than the price at the end of 1996, and so on. About how
many times greater was the change in price per gallon in 2007 than 2000?

To Find : how many times greater was the change in price per gallon in 2007 than 2000?

Solution:

Change in 2000 = 0.14 $

Change in 2007 = 0.71 $

how many times greater is ambiguous  ( there could be two possible cases )

i have considered both

b is  x  times greater than  a  could be

b = a + xa    or b = xa

=> x = (b - a)/a  of  x = b/a

change in price per gallon in 2007 than 2000   = 0.71/0.14

= 5.07   times

change in price per gallon in 2007 than 2000   = (0.71 - 0.14)/0.14

=4.07   times greater
