3. The following are the monthly rents ( in rupees ) of 40 shops.

3800,4200,4900,3700,7500,6200,5400,7900,8400,7500,6300,4400,7400,4400,3600,6900,5400

4800,3700,7400,3900,4800,4500,6100,4700,7100,4700,3800,8000,5100,3100,3800,4300,7500

6700,8200,7700,6400,8400,8100

Using class-intervals like 3000-3800,3800-4600, let us construct a frequency table for the above data using tally marks. Also, use the above table to prepare a cumulative frequency column.

4. Using the data from the above question, Calculate the mean monthly rent of 40 shops (in rupees).

Given :

Monthly rents of 40 shops.

To Find :

construct a frequency table and prepare a cumulative frequency of the data. Then calculate the mean.

Solution :

Class intervals    (f)      mid value    d=\frac{x-A}{h}       (f×d)           (cf)

                                             (x)            h=800

3000-3800         7          3400              -3                 -21               7

3800-4600         6          4200             -2                 -12              13

4600-5400         8          5000             -1                   -8              21

5400-6200         2          5800=A         0                    0              23

6200-7000         4          6600              1                     4              27

7000-7800         7          7400               2                   14              34

7800-8600        6           8200              3                   18              40

h=800             n = 40                                          ∑fd = -5

Mean \bar{x}=A+\frac{\sum f\times d}{n}\times h

=5800+\frac{-5}{40}\times 800

=5800\pm0.125\times 800

=5800\pm 100

= 5700

Mean = ₹ 5700
