3. The following figure shows a rectangular park
whose length is 30 m and width is 20 m.
(i) What is the total length of the fence
surrounding it ?
(ii) How much land is occupied by the park?
(iii) There is cemented path of 1 m width
which runs inside along the perimeter of
the park. If 1 bag of cement is required
to cement 4 marea, find out how many
bags of cement would be required to
construct this cemented path ?
(iv) There are two rectangular flower beds
of size 1.5 mx 2 m each in the park as
shown in the diagram. Find the area
covered by the grass.

Answer:

i) 100 meters

ii) 600 m²

iii) 26 bags

iv) 594 m²

Step-by-step explanation:

i) The total length of the park is given by:

Perimeter = 2(Length + Width)

= 2(30 + 20)

= 2 × 50 = 100 meters

ii) The area of the land occupied by the park is:

Area = Length × Width

= 30 × 20 = 600 m²

iii) We need to calculate the area of the path as follows.

The dimensions of the  rectangular border surrounding the park are:

Length = 30 + 2 = 32 meters

Width = 20 + 2 = 22 meters

Area of the path = (22 × 32) - 600 = 104 m²

If 1 bag of cement covers 4 m² the number of bags required for 104 m² is:

104/4 × 1 = 26 bags

iv) The area of the park covered by the flower beds is given by:

1.5 × 2 = 3 m²

The area covered by the grass is:

600 - (2 × 3) = 594 m²
