Answer:

The Imperial Records Department (IRD) was created in 1891 at Calcutta, which was then the seat of the central government. When the capital moved to New Delhi, the IRD also moved there in about 1930. After India achieved in- dependence in 1947, the Imperial Records Department was renamed the National Archives of India.
