Given: Structure of the compound

To Find: Total number of 2° carbon - x

               x - 7

Solution:

  • The point of intersection of 2 or more lines depicts the position of Carbon.
  • Secondary carbon/ 2° carbon is the carbon attached to two other carbon atoms.
  • 1 carbon (C) atom - total valency = 4
  • 2° carbon - 2 filled by 2C atoms,other 2 filled by 2 Hydrogen (H) atoms
  • Br, Cl, OH, or other groups attached to 2° carbon in place of H are called 2° bromine,2° chlorine, and 2° alcohol respectively.
  • Therefore, the total number of secondary carbon in the given compound is 13.

∴x - 7

= 13 - 7 = 6

so the value of x-7 is 6

Hence x - 7 = 6 (option a)
