The correct question: On the number slate alongside, write five numbers by changing the digits in the units, tens, hundreds, thousands and ten thousand places, one at a time. Read the numbers.
The correct answer is as follows.
Given:
The number slate in which numbers are written is given (figure 1).
To Find:
We have to write five numbers by changing the digits in the units, tens, hundreds, thousands and ten thousand places and to read them.
Solution:
The abbreviations TTh, Th, H, T, and U on the number slate stand for ten thousand, thousand, hundreds, tens, and units, respectively.
Consider numbers on the number slate in given figure 1.
It has 2 at the place of TTh, 3 at the place of Th, 4 at H, 1 at T, and 1 at U.
∴, The number can be read as twenty-three thousand, four hundred and eleven (23,411).
Now, let us change the digits on the number plate as in figure 2, one at a time.
- Changing the digit in units place as 0, the number can be read as twenty-three thousand, four hundred and ten (23,410).
- Changing the digit in tens place as 9, the number can be read as twenty-three thousand, four hundred and ninety (23,490).
- Changing the digit in hundreds place as 5, the number can be read as twenty-three thousand, five hundred and ninety (23,590).
- Changing the digit in thousands place as 1, the number can be read as twenty-one thousand, five hundred and ninety (21,590).
- Changing the digit in ten thousands place as 7, the number can be read as seventy-one thousand, five hundred and ninety (71,590).
Hence, the numbers on the number slates are read as twenty-three thousand, four hundred and eleven and seventy-one thousand, five hundred and ninety.
