PLEASE MARK THIS AS THE BRAINLIEST!!
THE BOY WHO STUTTERS
"B-but mum lis-ten t-to..."
"Oh for God's sake, will you stop stuttering?"
"I-"
"First learn to use your tongue, then open your mouth", shouted Daniel's mother storming out of his room, leaving poor Daniel with teary eyes and a broken heart.
It was nothing new to Daniel - just another ordinary day of his life; just another day of him being teased by his own mum because he stuttered.
Daniel lost his father at a tender age of 4. His mother, therefore, had to take up all his duties. She was frustrated of all her responsibilities. On top of that, Daniel had a stutter - a terrible one.To make matters worse, he was a 14 year old, and had to carry a massive burden of insults and teases from his classmates.
It felt to him as if being a "stutterer" had become a stamp to him, his trademark.Daniel had a tremendous amount of anger supressed within his heart. He wanted to prove that stuttering was a small part of him; it did not define him. His ambition was to inspire other stutterers, to make people understand there's nothing wrong with stuttering.
One day, at school, Daniel occupied a seat at the corner of the class, as usual.
In the first period, his class teacher came into the class and, after taking their attendance, declared: "Students, our school is organizing an event where you people will give speeches to the audience. It can be any issue about today's world. The details are given in the notice hung on the board outside. Interested students must register their name by the end of school today."
Daniel's eyes lit up for a while - this was his chance...this was his chance to speak his mind and heart to the audience - but there was a fear too - fear of embarassing himself in front of a hoard of people. At the end of school, he gained his courage and registered his name.
The date was 24th of October. Just a week later.
Daniel had a hard time at home, not only because of his mum's hurtful comments, but also thinking about his speech.
One week had passed like a ray of light - only planning his speech, practising it, and stressing about all the laughter, embarassment, and humiliation he'd have to go through if he fumbled there. The day came. Daniel was so tensed, it was beyond explanation.
Soon, while reciting the speech in his mind, his name was announced.
"Now please welcome on stage...Daniel Taylor."
His heart dropped. Daniel's feet slowly made theit was on the stage and towards the mic. Hundreds of eyes were fixed on him.
Daniel started:"Good morning t-to...", he cursed himself under his breath, "all the teachers, st-students, parents, and di-dist-inguished guests..."
Laughter filled the air. But Daniel didn't stop. It was his ambition, his mission in life to uplift people like him, people who stuttered.
He continued: "Today I would like t-to g-g-give a speech on stuttering. We all know w-what s-s-s-"
The laughter grew louder.
"-stuttering is. It is when one repeats a word o-or a part of the word mul-multiple times. Those who s-stutter are termed by others as stutterers, people like me. It is known to a-a-all how much bullying stutterers have to go through...but only people with a stutter know how it feels, what m-ma-magnitude of emotional des-truction it has."
Some people from the crowd were still laughing.
"I'm such a person. I know how it feels; how it wrenches one's heart and soul to hear negative comments on the way you speak. And those w-who are l-l-l-laughing, speaking on a st-stage in front of such a vast n-number of people, knowing that you st-stutter...it takes so much more darn chorage than any of you have ever used in your life."
Daniel was shocked how he managed to say that without stuttering.
"Stutterers HAVE an identity. St-stop calling them stutterers! They have feelings too! They are hu-humans too! Just be-because they can't speak properly doesn't mean they are in-inan-inanimate things! No!"
The audience became dead silent.
"People like me do have their own identities. It's my request to everyo-o-one present here...please don't call us stutterers, don't tease us."
Daniel could see the smiles on the face of people.
"I have my identity. I'm Daniel Taylor, not The Boy Who Stutters. Thank you."
Deafening claps filled the atmosphere. Daniel had never felt this proud in his life. With tears in his eyes and a smile of glory on his face, he left the stage.
As he left the stage, wiping his tears, Daniel's mum welcomed him in a bone-crushing, affectionate hug, "Well done, my son. I'm proud of you", said she weeping. That was it. Daniel gave an eye-opening speech and got the love of his mother. After losing several battles, ultimately he won it as he was determined to accomplish his mission.
Hope it helps
