MIXTURES:- If two or more substances mixed in any proportion, do not undergo any chemical change but retain their properties, the resulting mass is called a mixture. The substances are called components or constituents of the mixture. The components can be mixed in any proportion. These components can be separated by a simple physical process.

Mixtures can be categorized into two types are

Homogeneous and Heterogeneous.

• Homogeneous Mixtures:-A homogeneous mixture is one in which there is perfect mixing of the components of the mixture. It may also be defined as a mixture in which the composition is the same throughout the mixture. Normally, a homogeneous mixture is not obtained if both components are solid. Perfect mixing becomes improbable in such cases and composition varies from point to point in the sample.

• Heterogeneous Mixtures:-A heterogeneous mixture is a mixture that consists of physically distinct parts, each with different properties. For example, a mixture of sand and water, and a mixture of iron and sulphur are heterogeneous mixtures. Salt and sand mix uniformly to give a heterogeneous mixture.
