Certain bacteria or microorganisms which can degrade or decompose substances are called  biodegradable substances. Substances like jute fiber, animal and human waste, wool, food scraps etc  are biodegradable substances.

Bacteria secretes enzymes which helps the substances to get decomposed naturally in Earth and can act as manure for plant growth  thus not harming and polluting the environment.
