Traits are the most important characteristics of an individual as it shows the manner of thinking, and feeling of the person.
Following are the factors that influence a person to acquire certain values:
- Assertiveness: This is a very important trait of a person as it shows the level of confidence in him/her. People give respect to the person according to his/her assertiveness, by looking at how assertive the person is.
- Locus of control: It's the level to which people believe that they are the only ones who are responsible for their destiny, whatever happens to them is controlled by them.
- Future orientation: It is defined as “the degree to which a collectivity encourages and rewards future-oriented behaviors such as planning and delaying gratification. This changes an individual’s moral thought process to be flexible, adaptive, and attain spiritual fulfillment.
- Self Esteem: The amount of liking for oneself shows the person's traits. Usually, people with low self-esteem are not confident in themselves and their future plans, they are always doubtful.
- Gender Egalitarianism: Men and women usually react differently in moral situations. Women would favor care reasoning, need and sacrifice, while men incline to favor fairness and rights, which is known as justice reasoning.
- Human Orientation: An individual value changes positively and his character is modified by being supportive and considerate to society and peers, also includes his compassion and generosity.
- Collectivism: An individual with high morals would always think about group rights rather than considering individual rights only. Also, he would know that each of his choices would have its own consequences.
- Self Monitoring: Individuals high in self-monitoring show adaptability in adjusting their behaviour to external, situational factors. They are highly sensitive to external cues and behave differently in different situations.
- Risk Taking: People differ in their willingness to take chances and affects how long it takes to make a decision and how much information they require before making a choice influences the internal trait and ethical behaviour of an individual.
