Since stone is a solid, the molecules in it are tightly/closely packed.

Water, being a liquid, has it's molecules slightly away from each other.

Whereas, in air, the molecules are far apart/loosely packed since it is a gas.

In a solid the molecules are arranged tightly. There's hardly any space for them to get lose. which makes solids hard.

Water:

in water, the molecules are comparatively looser and they can move in any direction. Thus when water spills it's spread into many directions

Gas:

While in gas, the molecules are most loose. They can move freely in any direction.
