There are different methods of sowing such as Broadcasting, Dibbling, Drilling, Seed dropping behind the plough, Transplanting, Hill dropping and Check row planting. Broadcasting is the process of random scattering of seed on the surface of seedbeds. It can be done manually or mechanically both.
Putting seeds into the soil for growing crops is called sowing. Seeds of good qualities are used for this purpose. It is done manually or mechanically. Traditionally sowing was done manually by a funnel shaped tool. In this method, seeds are filled into the funnel. The seeds are then passed down from the funnel through two or three pipes (having sharp ends). These ends penetrate the soil and place seeds there. Nowadays, seeds are sown mechanically with the help of a motor operated equipment called seed drill. Scattering seeds manually (by hand) or mechanically over a large area is called broadcasting.
