The Quit India Movement was a movement that began after the failure of the Cripps mission and the imminent threat of the Japanese army on India's border. When the Cripps mission failed, no common ground of communication was left between the Indian National Congress and the British, Gandhiji believed that the benefit of both India and Britain lay in the timely withdrawal of the British forces and leaving India in God's hands. This began the Quit India movement.

The working committee of the congress met at Wardha in July 1942 and drafted the Quit India Resolution, which was passed on 8th August 1942 at the All India Congress conference at Mumbai. The British took several steps to suppress the movement, leaders were immediately arrested and sent to unknown locations. During this time, the Quit India Movemnet continued underground.
