  • The Central vigilance commission is an advisory body whose main function is to prevent corruption in central government offices.
  • The Central Vigilance Commissioner is appointed by the President of India on the recommendation of a three-membered committee which consists of the prime minister, leader of the opposition in Lok sabha and home affairs minister.
  • The tenure of Central Vigilance Commissioner is 4 Years on the date on which he enters his office or on attaining the age of 65 years whichever is earlier.
  • It is difficult to remove him from his office. He can be removed from his office only by the President on the ground of misbehaviour but even in such cases, the Supreme Court must have held an inquiry and instructed action against him.
