Answer:

Inhabitants of coastal and plain regions are engaged in fishing and agricultural activity because of the following reasons. Coastal areas have water in abundance. - Sea water has plenty of fish. - People of coastal areas can easily catch fish and earn their livelihood.

Answer:

Write the important points you need

Explanation:

Costal and plain

1. Westcoast is coast of submergence (except Malabar Coast) while east coast is an emergentcoast. These imply that sea is deeper in west coastthan sea on east coast. So, west coast has favourable conditions for natural harbours. ... Therefore it becomes difficult for ships to reach the east coast covered with sediments .

2. West Rivers form estuaries and eastern rivers form delta. Therefore it becomes difficult for ships to reach the east coast covered with sediments.Eest coast large rivers form large delta's while West coast has short and swift rivers that do not make deltas but instead have lagoons and estuaries .

3 . High Tides hit coast real hard. So coastal erosion occurs and eastern coast is more smooth and not suitable for making ports . While the West coast is indented and broken and hence more suitable for making ports .

4 . East coast is more attacked by cyclones compared to West coast .

4. . Continental shelf on east coast extends up to 500 km into the sea, so, difficult to develop good ports and harbours. Ships can enter and leave only during tides. But this does-not mean we cannot have ports in this condition. Some of the world's well known ports are located on Continental shelves like London, Singapore.

5 InIndia, historically, British India had trade contacts mainly with the Western world & Arabs. So natural choice was ports on Eastern coast.

6. The total length of the western coasts is 1400 kilometers and its width varies from 10 to 80 kilometres. It is washed by Bay of Bengal . The width of the eastern coastal plains varies between 100 to 130 kilometers It is washed by the Arabian sea . The region is wider, gets more rainfall .

Fishing

Fish is a main source of food with good protein content to many countries in the world, especially Island nations and cold countries in temperate latitudes. For eg. Iceland mostly survives on fish as it is a cold country and agriculture is minimal. 7 out of 12 months in the cold countries will be frozen they can't produce food required to support their population. Japan which is an Island nation with huge population which it cannot produce food for all by agriculture. So the demand for food is high and 72%of the earth is water the potential for fishing is also high. So the huge demand for fish is making the coastal people to undertake fishing as their economic activity.

People living in countries like india are fortunate to have such fertile plains and suitable climate for agriculture to support its 122 crores population but the situation is not the same in many parts of the world. So they choose fish which is abundant and rich in protein.

agriculture

Generally people tend to adopt to conditions around them. Plains offer more fertile land which is comparatively easy to cultivate. Hence one of the prime occupation becomes farming. There can be other occupation in the area like dairy farming or inland aqua-culture but these would be on lesser scale.
