JALLIANWALA BAGH MASSACRE : On 10th April, 1919 , Martial Law was imposed in Amritsar and General Dyer took command. On the 13th April, 1919, on the Annual Baisakhi fair, many countryside people met at the Jallianwala Bagh to discuss about the injust laws of government as well as to celebrate the fair. Being far away from the city, they did not know about the martial law. General Dyer along with his troops entered from main gate and blocked all the exit points. Then he ordered his troops to fire on people. Many people were killed in this. According to General Dyer, he said that he wanted to create a feeling of terror and awe in the minds of nationalists.
SIMON COMMISSION : Simon commission had been passed by new tory government in the Imperial Legislative Council. The British government constituted this new tory government. This commission was formed under Sir John Simon. The main problem of this was it did not constitute any Indian members in it. It gave the government power to suppress any political movement. When it arrived in India in 1928, people of all social groups greeted it with the slogans 'Go Back Simon'.
