- Extrusive rocks
extrusive igneous rocks are those formed by the cooling of molten magma on the earth's surface. The magma which is brought to the surface through fissures or volcanic eruptions, solidifies form rocks. Hence, such rocks are smooth, crystalline and fine grained. They are also called as volcanic rocks.
eg: giant causeway in northern Ireland.
2. intrusive rocks
when the magma solidifies within the earth's crust it cools slowly forming coarse textured, hard rocks with large crystals. such rocks are called intrusive rocks
eg: granite,dolomite etc
