Sub: Visit to an old age home
Dear Father,
This week end was one well spent. Our school had taken us on a visit to an old age home about twenty kilometres away. It was a part of our Social Service Project.
The home we visited is called 'Lovingly Old'. There are about two hundred senior citizens residing there.
All these residents have come from various walks of life. Some are very well off and reside here to kill loneliness. Some have a sad story. Their children have either turned them out or abandoned them.
There were quite a few whose children were living comfortably abroad at the expense of their parents, having conveniently forgotten them.
There were quite a many who had been cheated off their wealth by their children.
Some were very poor and sought a shelter in the Home.
The owner of the old age home is a nice lady with a great philanthropic mission. As she showed us round the place and introduced us to many of the residents she made us realise the importance of the old people.
The old are those on whose shoulders the new grow. We must treat them like gold and not discard them.
We were all tearful when we left making a silent promise to ourselves to look after our parents and grandparents.
Father I will never let you and Mother go to an old age home.
Take care my dear Father. How I miss you.
