Step-by-step explanation:

3/(x+1)-2/(3x-1) = 1/2

3(3x-1)-2(x+1)/(x+1)(3x-1) = 1/2

9x-3-2x-2/3x2-x+3x-1 = 1/2

7x-5/ 3x2+2x-1 = 1/2

3x2+2x-1 = 2(7x-5)

3x2+2x-1-14x+10 = 0

3x2-12x+9 = 0

Divide by 3

x2-4x+3 = 0

x2-3x-1x+3 = 0

x(x-3)-1(x-3) = 0

(x-1)(x-3) = 0

Hence, x=1 or x=3
