 \frac{3}{x - 1} + \frac{1}{x + 1} = \frac{4}{x } \\ \frac{3(x + 1) + (x - 1)}{(x - 1)(x + 1)} = \frac{4}{x} \\ \frac{3x + 3 + x - 1}{ {x}^{2} - {1}^{2} } = \frac{4}{x} \\ \frac{4x + 2}{ {x}^{2} - 1} = \frac{4}{x} \\ x(4x + 2) = 4( {x}^{2} - 1) \\ 4 {x}^{2} + 2x = 4 {x}^{2} - 4 \\ 4 {x}^{2} - 4 {x}^{2} + 2x = - 4 \\ x = \frac{ - 4}{2} \\ x = - 2
