Hi ,

3( x - 4 )² - 5( x - 4 ) -12 = 0

let x- 4 = a ------( 1 )

3a² - 5a - 12 = 0

3a² -9a + 4a - 12 = 0

3a ( a - 3 ) + 4 ( a - 3 ) = 0

( a - 3 ) ( 3a + 4 ) = 0

a - 3 = 0 or 3a + 4 = 0

a = 3 or a = -4/3

put a = x - 4 [ from ( 1 ) ]

x - 4 = 3 or x - 4 = - 4/3

x = 3 + 4 or x = 4 - 4/3

x = 7 or x = ( 12 - 4 ) /3

x = 7 or x = 8/3

I hope this helps you.
