Answer:

let \: the \: value \: of \:  \frac{1}{x}  = p \\  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:   \\ and \:   the \: value \: of \: \:  \frac{1}{y}  = q \\  \\  \\  \\ 3p + 6q = 12........(i) \\ 4p + 12q = 44........(ii) \\  \\  \\  \\ multiply \: eq(i) \: by \: 4 \: and \: eq(ii) \: by \: 3 \: both \: the \: sides \\ 12p + 24q = 48.......(iii) \\ 12p + 36q = 132......(iv) \\  \\ subtract \: eq(iii) \: from \: eq(iv) \\   12p + 36q = 132  - ( 12p + 24q = 48) \\ q = 7 \\  \\ put \: q = 7 \: in \: eq(iii) \\ 12p + 24 \times 7 = 48 \\  p =  - 10 \\  \\ hence...x =  \frac{ - 1}{10}  \: and \: y =  \frac{1}{7}
