Answer:

y = 9

Step-by-step explanation:

To find?

  • The value of y

How to find?

  • We shall find y by transposition method

Now,

3(y-1) = 2(2y-6)

⇒3y - 3 = 4y - 12

⇒ -3 + 12 = 4y - 3y

⇒ 9 = y

.°. y = 9

Checking :

LHS

➝ 3(y-1)

➝ 3 ( 9 - 1)

➝ 27 - 3

➝ 24

RHS

➝ 2(2y-6)

➝ 2 ( 2 × 9 - 6)

➝ 2 ( 18 - 6)

➝ 36 - 12

➝ 24

.°. LHS = RHS

Hence, y = 9 is the correct solution.
