3x+y=5 -------(1)

2x+3y=1 -------(4)

Multiplying 3 with (1) and 1 with (2)

=> 9x + 3y = 15-------(3)

=> 2x + 3y = 1----------(4)

Subtracting (4) from (3):-

7x = 14

Hence x = 2

Substituting x in (1)

=> 6 + y = 5

Hence y = -1

Answer: x = 2, y = -1

Correct Question:

3x + y = 5 --------- (1) [3x not 3×]

2x + 3y = 1 --------- (2)

Step-by-step explanation:

3x + y = 5 --------- (1)

2x + 3y = 1 -------- (2)

Multiply the eq (1) by 2 and eq (2) by 3

→ 3x + y = 5 (×2)

→ 6x + 2y = 10

→ 6x = 10 - 2 y -------- (3)

→ 2x + 3y = 1 (×3)

→ 6x + 9y = 3

→ 6x = 3 - 9y ----------- (4)

On comparing eq (3) & (4) we get,

→ 10 - 2y = 3 - 9y

→ 10 - 3 = - 9y + 2y

→ 7 = - 7y

→ y = -1

Substitute value of y = -1 in eq (1)

→ 3x + (-1) = 5

→ 3x - 1 = 5

→ 3x = 5 + 1

→ 3x = 6

→ x = 2

Therefore, the value of x is 2 and y is -1.
