Answer: y = 40 x = 2

Step-by-step explanation: let fathers age be y sons age be x

therefore y = 40 - x + 2

x =  40 - y + 2

x = 42 - y

y = 42 - x

\bf{\green{Solution :}}

Let present age of father and son be x and y respectively

then 3 years ago sum of then age is 40.

=> (x−3)+(y−3)=40

x+y=46 => y=46−x...(1)

After 2 years ; sum of age of father and son is

Let t = (x+2)+(y+2)

t = (x+2+46−x+2) from (1)

= 46+4

\tt{\boxed{\red{t=50}}}

So sum of their ages after 2 years = 50.
