Mass of the first liquid in mixture is (M₁) = αV(β-σ)/β-α

Given-

  • Volume of the mixture = V
  • Density of first ingredient = α
  • Density of second ingredient = β
  • Density of mixture = σ

Let the mass of first liquid = M₁

Mass of second liquid = M₂

Total mass = M₁ + M₂

We know that density is equals to mass per unit volume.

So,

σ = total mass/ V

Vσ = M₁ + M₂

M₂ = Vσ - M₁  -----------(i)

V is total volume so

V = M₁/α + M₂/β

By substituting the value-

σ = M₁ + M₂ / (M₁/α) + (M₂/β)

Substituting the value of M₂ from equation (i) we get

M₁ = αV(β-σ)/β-α
