Given: distance from the house to friend's house = 2 kilometers

To find: (a) distance travel

            (b) displacement

Solution:

(a) Distance is the total path covered by the body. It is the numerical representation of the path covered. While traveling from my house to a friend's house the distance is 2 kilometers, and

The distance from my friend's house to my house is also 2 kilometers.

Therefore, the total distance I travel = (2 + 2) = 4 kilometers

Distance traveled = 4 kilometers

(b) Displacement is the change in the position of the body. As I returned to my original position, my displacement will be zero.

Displacement = zero
