Total money lost due to absence = 4956-3894 = 1062

Since 1062 is not divisible by 4 or 5

so number of days he was absent can either be 3 where he was charged 354 for each day he was absent

or 6 days where he was charged 177 for each day he was absent.

Answer:

HCF of 4956,3894

  • divide both 4956 by 3894 by long division last remainder you will get 0 after dividing 708 by 354
  • so HCF=354=Maximum daily wages
  • the officer was appointed on contract money of rupees 4956=354×14 means appointed for 14 days .
  • but he was paid rupees 3894=354×11 means he was present for 11 days.
  • hence 14-11= 3 days

hence he was present for 3 days.

OR

(4956-3894)/354=3
