Explanation:

Yes, I do. Clearly, I read the paper I’m editing, but I also read others. I like to be informed — about world and local events and about some things that are just entertaining, such as the previous night’s hockey scores if I went to bed and missed the west coast games. Sometimes I get into the paper just to do a crossword puzzle. And there are some syndicated columnists that I’ve greatly enjoyed over the years and sometimes I just stumble into a wonderful feature story.

To clarify, I do not always read them in print; I read many online.

There really is no better way to stay informed about current events. If every print reporter, including those on staff at the wore services, suddenly stopped working for two weeks, the world would understand. There is some original reporting in broadcast, but a lot of it germinates from the wires, which are primarily fed by print. Ditto the online news sites; if they didn’t have print journalism as a reference and starting point, they wouldn’t have much to publish. So why get it second hand? Print is still the first rough draft of history.
