A team of 30 men is supposed to do a work in 38 days. 5 more men were employed after 25 days and the work was finished one day earlier. How many days would it have been delayed if the 5 extra men were not employed?

Let the amount of work done by each man in a day be x.

So the group’s one day's work is 30x.

Also, amount of work done in 25 days is 25*30x, i.e. 750x.

After 25 days, 5 more men were employed.

So, the group’s one day’s work now is, 35x.

Group worked for 12 more days to complete the work, a day earlier.

So,

750x +(35*12)x = 1

Or, 750x + 420x = 1

Or, x = 1/1170

So, one day’s work of 30 men = 30/1170, i.e. 1/39

Clearly, had 5 more men not joined after 25 days, the work would have been finished after 39 days, thus, delaying the completion by 1 day.

30m*25+35*12=30*x

1170/30=x

I.e39 days which is one day more than usual...
