Given :-

  • 30% passengers from a train got down at station A
  • 70% of the remaining got down at station B.
  • If there are still 1050 passengers in the train.

To Find :-

  • How many passengers were there before station A.?

Solution :-

Let us assume that, there were x passengers before station A .

Then,

→ 30% passenger got down at station A = 30% of x = (30 * x)/100 = 0.3x passenger .

So,

→ Passenger left in train = x - 0.3x = 0.7x

now,

→ 70% of remaining got down at station B = 70% of 0.7x = (70 * 0.7x)/100 = 0.49x

So,

→ Passenger left in train = 0.7x - 0.49x = 0.21x

given that, there are still 1050 passengers in the train.

therefore,

→ 0.21x = 1050

→ 21x = 1050 * 100

dividing both sides by 21,

x = 5000 (Ans.)

Hence, there were 5000 passengers before station A .
