A rectangular container, whose base is a square of side 6cm,stands on a horizontal table and holds water up to 1 cm from the top. When a cube is placed in the water and is completely submerged, the water rises to the top and 2 cm3 of water overflows. Calculate the volume of the cube.

Please Include as much steps as you can...Also please try to solve on paper.

Answer:

Side of the square base of rectangular container = 5 cm

Height of part of container that is not filled with water = 1cm

∴ Volume of empty part of container = 5×5×1 = 25cm³

Volume of water overflew when cube placed in water = 2cm³  (given)

Volume of cube = volume of empty part of container + volume of water                  which overflew

∴Volume of cube = 25 + 2 = 27cm³

lenght of the edge of cube 3√27 = 3cm.
