Henry said the above lines for Amelia Slater's and her sister Elizabeth Jordan's greed. They both were materialistic and greedy. But when amelia wanted the bureau and new slippers of her supposedly dead father because if Elizabeth would come she couldn't take thos. ,so Henry sarcastically and indirectly pointed the whole family for their nature of greedness.
