Explanation:
A BETTER WORLD
I look at my son. I see the hair,
The rebellious attitude, the strange set of values,
The unbending stand which says
I want none of your ways, I spit on your values.
Leave me be. And I am sad.
I see a disregard for life. The riots,
The contempt for law, the hatred
Which feeds on itself and grows
To become a way of life.
I see. I hear. I feel. And I am fearful.
If this were but the limit of my vision,
My life, my very being, would have no meaning.
But I see beyond the irritants, the noise, the confusion.
I see a desire. I hear a cry. I feel a need
For truth. And I am hopeful.

James Patrick Kinney January 15, 1932 ~ August 12, 2007 Monterey – On August 12, 2007 the final curtain closed on the life of James Patrick Kinney. After 9 years of critical illness, Jim, age 75, is finally at peace. Jim was born to Margaret Tobin and John Kinney of Cleveland, Ohio. At the age of fourteen, Jim left home to enter St. Charles Seminary in Salina, Ohio. He left seminary 10 years later, one year short of ordination. He joined the military, studied Burmese at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, and served in Okinawa. After his military service, he met Rita McCurdy, married, and had two children, Christopher Joseph and Maria Theresa. Jim was an English teacher by profession, and taught in San Jose, and in two high schools on the Monterey Peninsula. Jim's passions in life were performing on stage, singing, writing, and story-telling. He was well-known in the theater community in the area, and created a living history of Junipero Serra which was performed in venues throughout California.
