31. A pole of height 5 m is fixed on the top of a tower. The angle of elevation of the
top of the pole as observed from a point A on the ground is 60° and the angle of
depression of the point A from the top of the tower is 45°. Find the height of the tower.

Answer:

tan 60°=BD/AB

⇒ √3=BD/AB

⇒ AB=BD/√3.....(i)

tan 45°=BC/AB

 ⇒ 1=BC/AB

⇒  AB=BC.....(ii)

 

From (i) and (ii)

BD/√3=BC

(BC+5)=√3 BC

5=1.732 BC-BC

5=0.732BC

BC=5/0.732=6.83 m
