Given data : One goods carrier train runs at speed of 18 km/hour. If the length of train is 400 m.

To find : How much time it will required for the train to cross the signal pole ?

Solution :

  • Speed of train = 18 km/hour
  • Length of train = 400 m

Now we need to convert speed of train km/hour into m/s.

⟹ Speed of train = 18 km/hour

⟹ Speed of train = {18 * 1000}/{60 * 60} m/s

⟹ Speed of train = 18000/3600 m/s

⟹ Speed of train = 180/36 m/s

⟹ Speed of train = 10/2 m/s

⟹ Speed of train = 5 m/s

To find time taken by train to cross the signal pole we use formula :

⟹ Speed of train = length of train/time taken by train

⟹ 5 = 400/time taken by train

⟹ time taken by train = 400/5

⟹ time taken by train = 80 sec

Here we know, 80 sec mean 1 min 20 sec.

Hence, good's carrier train take 1 min 20 sec to cross signal pole.

Answer : 3) 1 m 20 sec.
