If two things dovetail or if one thing dovetails with another, the two things fit together neatly or have some common characteristics.

                               Dovetailing

The dovetailing is a joint process in which wood is working to fit together the two sides with the inclusive of interlocking pieces.

Example:

  • The dovetail is the woodwork which is used for the attaching the front part of a dresser drawer.
  • Attaching the blades of turbine to the jet engine shaft.
  • The dovetailing of a new tooth gear, while the replacement of broken teeth in the gears of clock.

Purpose of Dovetailing:

  • The purpose of doing dovetailing is for its resistance from being pulled apart which is the tensile strength.
  • A pin cut series has to extend from one end of the board interlock with tail series cut in the another board end.
