ie. (a+b)/2 = 45

a+b = 90

a = 90-b

Let a be the smaller number

when a is added by 3 the ratio becomes 11:20

ie. (a+3)/b = 11/20

20(a+3) = 11b

20a+60 = 11b

20(90-b)+60 = 11b

1800-20b+60 = 11b

1860 = 31b

b = 60

a= 90-60 = 30
